Hey, getting ready for a trip to Vietnam? Cool! Gotta figure out those visa requirements, right? They can be a bit of a hassle and they change based on where you're from. No worries, I've got a guide here to help you sort it all out with the latest info. This article is last updated on 7th July 2024.
Just a heads up, this stuff changes all the time with the latest news. So, before you jump into action, double-check everything on the official websites. Consider this article as your handy guide, not your only source.
For My Fellow Indians
Alright, so we Indians need a Visa to get into the country. You've got a few options here. You can go for an eVisa, get a visa approval letter from a Vietnamese travel agency before you land (sounds like a bit of a hassle, right?), or apply and snag an Embassy visa. After doing some digging, I found that the smoothest ride is probably getting an E-Visa.
What did we did?
We recommend using Atlys for this process. We uploaded all the required information to their app in less than 10 minutes. Our Visa arrived within the next 7 days. The cost is approximately ₹ 2,150 for Visa charges and an additional ₹ 750 as a platform fee. This method provided us with a hassle-free, on-time Visa.
Eligibility
- Indian citizens are eligible for the Vietnamese e-visa.
- Passport: Must be valid for at least six months beyond the planned stay in Vietnam.
- Photos: Passport-sized photos meeting the specifications of the visa type.
- Application Form: Completed visa application form (available online for e-visa or at the embassy for other types).
Validity
The e-visa we took through Atlys was valid for 30 days and Single entry. There are other types of Visas for 90 days, some that allow multiple entries, etc. Check for this information on their official websites.
Self Application Process
- Apply online through the official Vietnam e-visa portal.
- Provide necessary documents such as a scanned copy of your passport (biographical page) and a recent passport-sized photo.
- Pay the visa fee online.
- Processing time is generally 3-5 working days.
- Once approved, print out the e-visa to present upon arrival in Vietnam.
Entry Points
The e-visa is accepted at 33 international checkpoints, including major airports and land border crossings.
Visa Exemptions
Several countries have visa exemption agreements with Vietnam, allowing their citizens to enter the country without a visa for a specified period:
Up to 15 days
Citizens of Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Norway, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, and the UK.
Up to 30 days
Citizens of Cambodia, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and the Philippines.
Up to 90 days
Citizens of Chile (for diplomatic and official passport holders) and Kazakhstan.
For stays longer than these periods, or for purposes other than tourism, a visa is required.
Special Considerations
Dual Nationals
If you hold dual citizenship, always use the same passport for entry and exit to avoid complications.
Overstay Penalties
Overstaying your visa can result in fines, detention, and deportation. Ensure your visa is valid for your entire stay.
Visa Extensions
While in Vietnam, you can apply for a visa extension through the Vietnamese immigration office, although this must be done before your current visa expires.
For the most accurate and updated information, always check with the Vietnamese embassy or consulate in your country before traveling.
